Nando Orfei was the patriarch of Italy’s oldest and most celebrated circus family, which has drawn audiences to its big top for more than a century and a half. His conviction that the circus remained the greatest show on earth was shared by his friend the director Federico Fellini, in several of whose films he also appeared.
